The start of a new year often brings a mix of excitement and pressure. We’re bombarded with ideas about New Year’s resolutions, fresh starts, and big plans to transform our lives. While these aspirations can be motivating, they can also feel overwhelming, especially when we haven't yet reached where we think we should be. If you feel this way, you're not alone. This sense of expectation to achieve more, do more and be more is common, and it’s something I deeply resonate with.

As I reflect on my own journey, I’m reminded that spiritual growth and career development don’t always look like grand leaps. Sometimes, progress comes in small steps of faith, quiet moments of obedience, and seemingly mundane acts of persistence. Writing Faith, Purpose, and Career: Navigating Life’s Twists and Turns was one of those small, faithful steps. It wasn’t about presenting myself as someone who has it all figured out but about sharing the lessons I’ve learned along the way, pointing to the One who guides me through it all.

Instead of letting the pressure of “new things” overwhelm us this year, I invite you to reflect on purpose—the why behind what we do—and how God’s hand is at work in the small, imperfect steps we take toward fulfilling our calling.

For me, the concept of purpose has always been deeply tied to faith. When I began my career, I saw my work as an extension of my spiritual life—a way to glorify God and serve others. Over time, I realized that purpose isn’t something we stumble upon all at once. It’s something we uncover gradually, through life’s twists and turns, through the challenges and victories.

One of the most humbling parts of my journey has been seeing how God can take something small—like my habit of journaling—and use it in ways I never imagined. When I first started writing, it was simply a way to process my thoughts, frustrations, and lessons from God. But over time, those private reflections grew into something more.

I felt led to start a faith-based blog, a space where I could share my personal journey, struggles, and how God was working in my life. Hitting “publish” on that first post was terrifying—I worried about being vulnerable, about being judged, and whether anyone would even care. But God reminded me that it wasn’t about perfection; it was about obedience.

The Detours that shape us

One of the hardest seasons of my career came during the COVID-19 pandemic when I unexpectedly lost my job. That moment forced me to confront my fears about identity and purpose. For years, my career had been a source of pride and stability, and suddenly, I felt like the ground had been pulled out from under me.

Through prayer and verses like Jeremiah 29:11—“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord”—I found the courage to trust God’s timing. While I couldn’t see it at the time, this detour became a pivotal turning point.

Almost miraculously, I was referred for a finance manager role at a fintech company by a former colleague. This experience reminded me of the power of relationships and the importance of nurturing genuine connections. I share this story in Faith, Purpose, and Career to highlight how God can use even the most difficult moments to redirect us to something better.

If you’re in a season of uncertainty, I encourage you to reflect on this story in the book. It’s a reminder that God is always working, even in the waiting.

Purpose in the Quiet

Another transformative chapter of my journey took place when I relocated to Kumasi for a role. This move felt isolating at first—I was away from family, friends, and the comforts of home. But what initially seemed like a setback became a season of deep spiritual growth.

In Kumasi, I developed the habit of taking prayer walks during my lunch breaks. These moments became sacred, a time to pour out my frustrations, seek God’s direction, and reflect on His promises. Psalm 46:10—“Be still, and know that I am God”—became a guiding verse for me during this period.

It was in these quiet moments that I began journaling my thoughts and prayers. Over time, these reflections evolved into a blog, where I started sharing my journey with others.

Sharing God’s Love Through Writing

The blog started small, but over time, it began to reach more people. What once felt like a quiet, personal endeavor turned into a platform for faith-based encouragement. I’ve been amazed—often surprised—at how readers from different parts of the world have connected with the stories I’ve shared.

It was through the blog that I felt God nudging me toward writing Faith, Purpose, and Career. The book wasn’t about presenting myself as an expert or someone who has “arrived” at their purpose. Far from it. Instead, it was about being honest about the journey—the doubts, the waiting, the small victories, and the ever-present grace of God.

Writing the book was both daunting and fulfilling. It became another step in sharing God’s love with others, reminding them (and myself) that we are never alone in the challenges we face. It’s not a destination; it’s part of a process, a medium through which I’m learning to be faithful in the season God has placed me in.

Reaching Thousands, But Staying Grounded

Even now, as I see the book reaching readers and the blog growing, I remind myself that this is just the beginning. I haven’t “arrived” at my purpose. Instead, I’m learning that purpose is about daily faithfulness. It’s about showing up, being honest, and letting God use what you have—even when it feels small or inadequate.

The growth of the blog and the book has been a reminder that God can multiply our efforts in ways we don’t expect. But it’s also a call to stay humble and grounded. Purpose isn’t about numbers or success—it’s about being faithful to what God has entrusted to us and trusting Him with the results.

Reflections for the New Year

As we navigate 2025, I want to encourage you to embrace the process rather than the pressure. Instead of rushing to create something “big,” focus on the small, meaningful steps that align with your faith and values. Whether it’s starting a new project, reaching out to someone in need, or simply committing to spend more time in prayer, these small acts of faith are where purpose begins to take shape.

Here’s what I’m reminding myself this year:

  1. Purpose is Uncovered Gradually: It’s okay not to have all the answers. Trust that God will reveal your next step in His timing.

  2. Your Efforts Matter, No Matter How Small: The blog started with a few reflections, and the book was written one page at a time. God honors the work we do with faithful hearts.

  3. Stay Connected to the Source: Purpose isn’t about striving—it’s about abiding in God. This year, let’s commit to staying rooted in prayer, Scripture, and fellowship.

  4. Trust God’s Multiplication: You may feel like your contributions are small, but God has a way of using them in ways far beyond what we imagine.

Moving Forward with Faith

The journey of faith, purpose, and career is not a straight line—it’s full of detours, delays, and surprises. But through it all, I’ve learned that God is faithful. He is working, even when we can’t see it.

As we embrace this new year, let’s focus less on achieving big things and more on being faithful in the small ones. Purpose isn’t about arriving; it’s about walking with God daily, trusting Him to guide us and use us in ways we can’t yet imagine.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my journey, and I pray that it encourages you in yours. If you’re feeling the pressure of new beginnings, I hope you’ll take a deep breath, release those anxieties to God, and trust that He’s guiding your steps.

Let’s journey together this year, one step at a time, trusting that God’s plans for us are good, and that His purposes will unfold in His perfect timing.
